The first step in the process is to visit our website and register in the proper grade division as a staff member. Be sure and answer all of the questions thoroughly. After vetting, our team will follow up with a link for a background check and an online safety course that will need to be completed. This process must be complete by November 1st to participate in the winter season.
Great question! Yes, it would! At Red Oak Basketball League, we are not looking for volunteer coaches that are basketball geniuses. We aren't looking for experts in the sport. We are looking for responsible, high character adults who greatly care about the development of these kids. If that sounds like you, we would love to add you to the team. We will also host a coaches clinic and training to help get you started at the beginning of the season.
This meeting will be held prior to the season on November 12th. The head coach is REQUIRED to be present to this meeting. Assistant coaches are encouraged to attend as well. The following will take place at the coaches meeting: Final rosters will be presented, practice schedules finalized, important rule and gameplay discussions will take place.
The short answer is NO. ROBL is a recreational basketball organization that encourages competition while also doing its best to create an environment where the game play is fair so the experience is positive for all involved. However, each coach does have the ability to ensure a certain number of players are guaranteed on their roster through a player "FREEZE". Each coach may "freeze" up to 5 players prior to roster assignments.
Each coach will be allowed to FREEZE up to 5 players to his or her roster. If a coach has their child on their team, the child of the coach will be counted as 1 freeze, leaving 4 possible FREEZE'S available.
Rosters will be assigned by the league commissioner based on skill level, height, weight, and experience. The goal is for each team in all divisions to be evenly matched to maximize the spirit of competition and keep the players loving the sport and coming back to play!
No. The league does provide game balls for gamedays, but we do not provide practice balls at practice facilities due to logistical challenges. Please ask all parents to purchase a practice ball for their player that is the correct size for his/her division.
Yes. All volunteers who are interacting with the kids for practices and/or games must complete the registration process with background check and online course. This is for the safety of the players.
